Connecting with London Underground
Project Techniques (PTL) has been appointed by radio communications specialist Team Simoco Limited, to manage their contract to install new radiating cable infrastructure as part of London Underground's 'Connect' project.
'Connect' will play an integral part in improving efficiency throughout the whole of the underground network. Spare capacity on the new communications infrastructure will also help London Underground to realise new revenue streams that are essential for the tube's regeneration and future investment policies.
This critical part of the project is concerned with renewal of existing, outdated radio infrastructure at a number of key London stations.
PTL project managers are coordinating survey, design and site teams and working to strict timescales and health and safety requirements. In addition PTL have established internal management and reporting procedures and will be responsible for setting up future project teams.
PTL are due to complete the first stations at Camden Town and St Paul's by summer 2008 and are due commence work at Covent Garden and Warren Street within the next month.
Team Simoco Managing Director Mike Norfield said "Using the proven management skills of Project Techniques has allowed us access to experienced resources to start work on this critical project very quickly". PTL will assist in recruiting, training and setting up a dedicated management team for Simoco as the workload increases.
